One of the goals of The Caring Place is to provide services that would not only give people fish, but teach them to fish. Our first effort in that direction is the establishment of a community garden on East Street, located on property owned by the Cleveland Housing Authority (CHA). The garden is literally in the common backyard of the residents of one of CHA’s housing projects.
The direction for this project has been provided by an advisory board consisting of:
- Suzanne Bennett – Horticulturist at Cleveland State Community College
- Paul Dellinger – Executive Director of the Cleveland Housing Authority
- Dr. Murl Dirksen – Professor at Lee University
- Ed Elkins – Bradley County Commissioner, District 1
- Regina Lawson – Lee University, Leonard Center
- Jennifer Norton – Agricultural Sustainability Specialist
- Lisa Stanbery – Bradley County Commissioner, District 3
- Reba Terry – Executive Director, The Caring Place
If you are interested in participating in the Community Garden Initiative, please contact anyone on the advisory board. You can also contact The Caring Place by phone (423-472-4414) or through email (rterry@thecaringplaceonline.org) for more information.
